The Life That's Waiting for Us

“We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us.”  ~ Joseph Campbell

I came across this quote recently and it really hit home. I think so often, we have this vision of the perfect life. But where did that vision come from? Often it comes from somewhere outside of us. We observe those around us and think “that’s what I want!” Then we go about creating a life from this observation.

With all that we are bombarded with on the daily—Instagram, movies, television, Facebook, “reality” TV, family and friends—it’s no surprise that many of us are struggling to reconcile what we think we want with what would truly make us happy. And then there is the pressure of what we are “supposed” to do. Where did all of the rules come from?

What would happen if you simply let go of the life you planned? How would it feel to simply stop trying to force it into what you think it should be.

But on the other side of letting go?There’s space. Not an empty void, but a wide-open stretch of possibility. A life you hadn’t considered. A version of you that’s more resilient, more real, and more ready than you thought.

Getting there starts with all the things we talk about here in Draft Lab. Goal-setting that starts at the core of who you are with your guiding values. Building habits, systems and processes that truly move you forward one step at a time. Looking inside by reflecting regularly on what matters to you and checking in on your goals—not set-it-and-forget-it.

Trust that it's okay to pivot. That maybe—just maybe—the best parts of your story are still unwritten.

Journal Prompts:

What version of life was I chasing because it felt like I “should”? Where did that pressure come from?

Whose expectations have shaped my plans—family, culture, social media, past me? How do I feel about that now?

If I could quiet the outside noise, what would I want for me?

What fears come up when I think about letting go of the life I planned? What would it feel like to release them?

What small step can I take toward the life that’s waiting for me—not the one I thought I had to build?

How have I already proven that I can adapt, grow, and thrive when plans change?

What would I say to a friend who feels stuck in a “should”? Can I offer that same grace to myself?

Affirmations:

I release the pressure to live a life that isn’t mine.

I trust my inner voice more than outside expectations.

Letting go is not failure—it is wisdom and courage.

The life that’s waiting for me honors who I am right now.

The Weekly Draft

What is it? I have talked to some of you about how I set up my week every Sunday evening. During that time I write/reflect on how my previous week progressed — the things that went well, the things I wish I had accomplished — and I plan for me next week. I set my priorities and goals, I reflect on habits, I timeblock my calendar, etc.

So I would like to invite you all in to my planning space. I will open my personal zoom room every Sunday evening at 7pm for whoever wants to join me. We will co-work on setting up our weeks and have an accountability checkin for whoever needs it. Our first one will be on May 4. HERE is the link to join (hint: it’s my personal zoom link)

Retreat News

After some conversations with you all, I have decided to hold the retreat in January. I’m thinking of a Thursday evening/Friday morning arrival through Sunday morning. The dates are January 22-25, 2026.

My plan will be to spend the weekend in personal reflection. I will have a retreat workbook for all of you and we will do work on your vision and goals for the year—personal and professional. It will be a combination of workshops, individual work time, one-on-one time with me, all while enjoying time away to draft your year without the distractions of your every day lives.

I will include in the price breakfast, lunch, snacks and some beverages, with dinner on your own Friday and Saturday.

I will have all details worked out over the summer when I would like to have some confirmations and reserve a house at the beach (probably OBX but maybe VA Beach area). As far as cost, I am thinking in the range of $650-$950 depending upon how many people can commit (the more people, the lower the price). I will open it up for a select few non-members as well, but will give preference (and a discount) to Draft Lab members.

Office Hours:  Monday, May 19. This is for Basic Coaching Members as well as any Premier Coaching Members who would like to touch base between scheduled coaching appointments. HERE is the link to schedule a 30-minute slot

The Weekly Draft happens every Sunday evening (starting May 4) at 7pm at this link. Come prepared to reflect on your week and plan the week ahead.
